New Site Design and Blogger Intergration
Just yesterday I started the new site re design and blogger.com integration. To catch all readers up too date my wife and I started out blogging with a blogger.com account and around 1 year later I decided to start a blog tips slash personal blog with WordPress.Â
At that time this is when the domain Ja Kel Daily became a reality – Ja Kel stands for Jason and Kelly abbreviated. Our blogger account still alive and well (http://fashionbyjakel.blogspot.com) but forwarded with a cname record to (http://www.jakeldaily.com).Â
For most it’s a hard decision to up and move to WordPress and say good bye to all those back links and even PageRank. We on the other hand have decided to stick with blogger and attempt to integrate the two.
I’m not a website design guru by far but I have to admit I have impressed myself this time with the current process of the integration of the sites. So far I have not had any help, just the use of Google searches.
Site navigation tool bar I am sure that you have noticed a few new sections. The celebrity gossip section is in fact the Blogger account located under the celebrity + fashion link and all others are WordPress blogs individual installed into separate folders representing what the content will be.Â
My personal blog that you are currently reading is under blog tips and starting tomorrow I will only be posting articles releted to blog tips and all personal posts will now be posted under the personal section.
Video podcast yep I’m not exactly sure when we will start our videos but it will be a weekly video posted every Sunday. Last but not least the forum this area I will actually have to hire someone unless I figure it out sometime soon because I want it integrated into the layout and not a separate look that it has now.
 Almost forgot also working on a new logo!

Hmm, the black on gray is kind of hard to read. I would consider changing the text color or the background color within the post text region of the page. Also, it would be nice if your logo linked to your homepage since I can’t seem to find a way to get back there without manually typing your URL into my browser. Looking good, good luck!
I just switched from Firefox to IE and realized that the background is white in IE. It looks like you just need to update your CSS to make it appear correctly in Firefox.
Another thing I noticed that’s an issue in IE is that the left-most sidebar gets pushed down on the page and doesn’t start until the right-most sidebar ends. (This is only when viewing an individual post not the homepage.)
Also the premium links are not visible (firefox) until you scroll over them.
The page doesn’t fit properly on 1024×768 (too wide). Also looks like the background color is wrong.
Similar inputs as given by others -
1. Cannot find links till I scroll over them so every block like “categories”, “make money sites” etc are looking blank and in grey color.
2. Could not find a link to reach to homepage.
3. Could not find “Top Commentators” section and “recent comments”
I agree about the readability. I like the overall color scheme a lot, but some tweaking would help make the text on the dark gray more readable. I’m also having to scroll right to see the whole page…
Ok, I’ve noted everything and have also noticed the errors in Firefox when clicking on individual posts. I have not checked screen resolutions yet. Current width is set at 1020 and I will work on decreasing it.
I’m really starting to hate Firefox when it comes to site design.
Ok the width is at 1000 now let me know if it’s better now. Still working the gray issue in Firefox.
I have noted that your blog is posted too much content on the same page. Its very irritated me to scroll down to so down. Maybe i’m using the Firefox problem too.
Maybe your new site design can put few contents on the front page enough already. Just my own opinion
Logo now linked to homepage. Yes I know still working the Firefox issue. I was able to make the sections come up white but not the full width – still working on it.
Ok the fix list: The Gray problem in Firfox – Fixed, Site Width I changed to 1000px. I did not see the issue with the tool bar. Please advice of any other problems.

I’ve checked the resolution for 1024×768 being too wide and yes it’s too wide. Still looking for a resolution. The site is best viewed at 1280 x 800 Laptop and 1280 x 1024 Desktop. These are the resolutions I use on my systems.
Checked stats and 48% are still using this resolution! OK – Fixed set new width to 960px and the site fits perfectly in 1024 x 768.

Well, you are ambitious. Does this mean the old design was not working for you.
I am using Firefox, and confirm all the comments above. I have to scroll right.
I’ve made the adjustments and the scroll problem should be fixed. I’ve tested it for as low as 1024 x 768 resolution any lower resolutions and I’m sorry your pretty much out of luck.
Didn’t you do a logo contest on digital point forums? Whatever happened with that?
Yes that’s correct but I stated in the contest if none of the logos fit my needs then the contest will remain open. Still looking for the right one.
I set the site width to 960px and set margins to auto. Please inform me if this fixed the scroll bar issue for site resolution 1024 x 768.
And I remember mentioning this logo contest as one of the ways [and others like listing your domain name at sitepoint] for traffic [in a positive way]
What do you mean by positive way because I had every intention of taking a logo from the contest if there was good enough to for my site but unfortunately there was not – so far.
When running a contest you should always reserve the right to not select just in case nothing meets your needs.
Ok what a pain in the a** finally I just figured out how to get the new design centered for resolution 1024 x 768.

A very clinical design – it comes across as very professional but somehow seems void of any personality.
I think the large black header at the top of the page should be reduced in size; it really doesn’t need to be that big (viewing in FireFox).

Thanks for the input – the space at the top was left for banner ad space but still in debate on it. If we decide against it then the space will be removed.
The redesign was a good move. Your old layout reminded me too much of another well known blog. One thing that I don’t quite understand, are you saying that you still publish on your Celebrity Gossip blog using blogger?
The celebrity section is still hosted under blogger.com I just redesigned the the layout to match the wordpress design. The blogspot address is using a cname record to forward it to the (www) name of the domain. click this link http://fashionbyjakel.blogspot.com and will see that we are still using blogger blogspot.

I have found that you can tweak your blog all day and still find problems so as long as its simple and easy to navigate. Looks like you have a good think going here.
